Intelligent Surveillance with Intel oneAPI at the NEC

The National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham has implemented an intelligent surveillance solution powered by Intel® oneAPI, showcasing the platform’s efficiency in developing and running applications across diverse hardware. Leveraging smart cameras and Intel oneAPI, the NEC achieves over 95% accuracy in video stream analysis, optimizing crowd management and enhancing security.

The NEC, one of the world’s largest exhibition centers, welcomes millions of visitors annually. Managing crowd flows, ensuring security, and delivering a seamless visitor experience are major challenges in such a dynamic environment.

To address these challenges, the NEC partnered with Intel to deploy an intelligent surveillance solution using the Intel® oneAPI platform. This system enables real-time video stream analysis through smart cameras, providing:

  • Proactive crowd management to prevent congestion.
  • Rapid response to critical situations.
  • Enhanced security and an improved visitor experience.

Intel® oneAPI played a pivotal role in the development of this solution, providing a unified programming approach to run applications across multiple architectures, including Intel® Xeon® processors. This flexibility enabled developers to optimize AI algorithms for fast and efficient execution while eliminating the need to rewrite code for each hardware architecture.

The results speak for themselves:

  • Over 95% accuracy in video stream analysis.
  • Reduced deployment times thanks to code portability.
  • Enhanced operational efficiency and decision-making capabilities.

This collaboration demonstrates how unified tools like Intel® oneAPI can transform complex environments, such as public spaces, by making them safer, more efficient, and better suited to modern needs.
